New Mexico Tours

  MAY 12, 2016       GALISTEO VILLAGE, GALISTEO BASIN PRESERVE,  DALTON CANYON This 6 hour spring migration tour takes us from Galisteo Creek in the village to the nearby Galisteo Basin Preserve and then we finish at Dalton Canyon just above the village of Pecos.  We will sample four distinct habitats.   Depart El Dorado at 6:15 am and return 1 pm.  $50 per person, pre-registration required. MAY 17-18, 2016   RUBY RANCH AND DEHAVEN RANCH In this two day tour we will visit two historic New Mexico ranches.  Ruby Ranch, a  20,000 acre working cattle ranch just north of Las Vegas, features a streamside habitat along Sapello Creek, as well as two large playa lakes.  DeHaven Ranch, west of Roy, has a marvelous riparian corridor along a tributary of Ute Creek as well as upland grasslands.  We will visit Ruby Ranch in the morning of 5/17 and then continue northeast to DeHaven.  We will have dinner provided by ranch co-owner Stephanie Brock.  Night accomodations are in the old bunkhouse which was once the DeHaven post office.  On May 18 we will spend the morning walking along the creek at the height of spring migration.  After lunch, we will bird the surrounding grasslands with chances to see Lark Bunting, Long-billed Curlew, and Mountain Plover.  Participants will need to bring lunch on May 17 and fixings for lunch on May 18 (refrigeration provided overnight at DeHaven).  Dinner on 5/17 and breakfast on 5/18 included.  Return to Santa Fe around 6-7pm.  $195 per person, pre-registration required.   JUNE 14, 2016   Los Trigos Ranch, Pecos Monastery, and Elk Mt. Come experience the Pecos River drainage from a private ranch east of Pecos to the high country above Terrero.  Breeding species encountered may include American Dipper, Three-toed Woodpecker, Dusky and Hammond's Flycatchers,  Plumbeous Vireo, Grace's, Virginia's, Black-throated Gray, and Macgillivray's Warblers, Gray Catbird.  Depart El Dorado at 6:15am and return 4-5pm.   $70 per person pre-registration required.
